MAKING A SPLASH IN THE LOCAL AREA

ONTHE RIVER

WILD SWIMMING

We are just next door to Buscot Weir, rated by cntraveller.com as one of the top 10 places to go wild swimming in the UK.

It's a weir pool formed from a natural bend in the river that provides a safe place to swim out of the river current.

Very popular with locals and visitors alike the pool is complimented by a National Trust run sunbathing/picnic area right next to it and a coffee shop in the village.  Think of it as an inland beach, with grass instead of sand and fresh water to swim in.

There's a carpark in the village if you want to drive but it's an easy  15 minute ride by bike or you can walk there direct via a footpath that goes right past the Spinney.

CANOE / PEDALO HIRE

If you want to hire a small craft and splash about there are several places that will cater for your needs.

We'd recommend Cotswold Canoe Hire who are based in Lechlade, the next town upstream from us. They hire Canoes, Kayaks and other boats as well as all the equipment. They also share a carpark with the Riverside, a public house that will do you a well earned pint and meal after you've finished.

When we've used them in the past we have just rocked up and jumped in but you may want to contact them in advance to be sure.

BY BOAT

There are many companies in the area that will hire you a pleasure boat or cabin cruiser and let you cruise it up and down the Thames. Here are a couple of the closest:

Cotswold boat hire is located in Buscot, which is right next door to us and have a variety of boats for hire

Otherwise, if you'd prefer to let someone else do the driving Inglesham Boat Trip offer a cruise experience.

There are plenty of other boat hire companies to choose from, see the google link for details

FISHING

There are a couple of options for you if you'd like to get a rod out:

Just a couple of miles up the road, Buscot manor has a fishing lake on it's grounds that is open to all.  It's £10 per day for a stand and operates on an honesty box so you can just turn up and post your money through a letterbox in the carpark.  Be warned though, it's first come first served and can get busy in the summer so you may want to make an early start!

Otherwise there are fishing pools around Lechlade that offer day tickets including a premier carp fishing lake at Whelford Pools
