For years Paul and Cat have been interested in outdoor living and setting up a space on the farm to enjoy the wildlife, peace and tranquillity.

This started off as a pipe dream, but as time passed they found themselves spending more and more time looking at everything from tiny houses to bell tents, glamping pods and yurts.

They already had the perfect place to put it: A Spinney is a farming term for a small wooded area in between fields. The one on the farm had been disused for many years and had been largely left to it's own devices. Although they did find themselves visiting it from time to time anyway, just to enjoy the space. Being inside the Spinney makes you feel like you are in the heart of the forest, disconnected from the world and when you do look out you can see views across the fields and off to the sunset.

With the location sorted they  began to look in earnest for something to inhabit it. Then one day Cat found a 10m Yurt for sale on the internet. It was far bigger than they had planned but they thought they'd go and check it out anyway, out of curiosity more than anything.

Upon seeing the yurt they instantly fell in love.  There was no way they could go back to looking at bell tents and pods, they had to have it!  What followed next was a mad scramble that involved emptying bank accounts, renting vans, calling in a lot of favours with friends and family, the cancellation of a holiday and a lot of hard work and foul language.  But: After 4 hard weeks they had completely  dismantled, and transported the yurt to the farm. It was home.

This left them with an overgrown area of disused woodland, the world's biggest Ikea kit (with no instructions!) and precisely zero money left in the bank account to turn it all in to something they could be proud of.

Time to roll up your sleeves:  From this point to where we are now has  taken 2 solid years of passion, graft and a lot of swearing. Their goal was to build an off grid, eco friendly environment in keeping with it's surroundings.  They upcycled, learned wood working, plumbing and a host of other skills and grafted constantly. Undergrowth was cleared, timber was reclaimed and finally, their vision of an oasis in the woods was achieved!

OUR STORY

THE FARM

Mainly a beef farm with 70 head of Aberdeen Angus cattle, with a horse, 2 pet sheep and chickens!  and although not formally registered as organic, we only use the natural stuff (manure!) to feed the grassland. Our fields span roughly 150 acres and includes Sits of Special Scientific Interest

.

Run by Cat and her brother John, Cat runs the day to day management of the farm.

The farm is in Cat's DNA and as such every aspect of the project has been thought out with the environment in mind. We understand how important it is to look after the land and pride ourselves on being non-invasive farmers.

“What a great place to spend time away from it all with the kids.

We planned to spend the week touring the Cotswolds but in the end we had a far nicer time just kicking back and relaxing”
“This is NOT Glamping... Not even close! What you have provided is so much more than that!
It's a lovely part of the country and your yurt fits right in - can't wait to come back again and do the more of the same!”
“Can I live here?”
